Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question? Maybe I’ve answered it already?…

What gardening zone are you in?

We live in Zone 5b. We have hot, dry summers and cold, snowy winters.

I messaged you and I haven’t heard back!?

I probably haven’t received your note (or anyone else’s). My family keeps me crazy busy. I’ve got thousands of unread emails. My grandparents log into social media more than I do (and they’re not exactly frequent fliers). Avoiding tech messaging is how I manage to find time to write articles for my readers. Sometimes I wish I could do it all, but it’s just not realistic for my family.

Do you accept guest blog posts?

Home for the Harvest is my personal blog and it does not accept guest blog posts from strangers. I do occasionally post articles written by my friends here in our little town. Please don’t email me with corporate link-building content pitches.

Can I use one of your photos on my own blog or social media?

You’re welcome to use one image from a post here on Home for the Harvest as long as you link back to the original image on this site. Images used on the web must be clearly captioned “Photo by Home for the Harvest” and must be linked with a follow hyperlink back to the original post on this site.

How do you take and edit your photos?

Most of my photography is done with natural sunlight as the light source. I do have some very basic LED photography lights for when there just isn’t enough light around. I edit my photos in Apple Photos. I shoot most of my photos with a Canon Rebel T5i DSLR camera or my iPhone. Canva is great for adding text or making a collage. If it has to do with photos, and it’s fancy, I probably don’t know how to use it.

Who did that lovely illustration of you?

The watercolour illustration of me was done by Cate Currie, a wonderful Canadian artist.

How did you set up this blog?

Here are the tools I use to keep my website online:

  • WordPress.org: Blogging Software (Free! blog writing interface)
  • Namecheap: Domain Names (site address URL)
  • SiteGround: Website Hosting (servers holding files/text/photos)
  • ConvertKit: Email Management (sends out my email newsletters)
